Since the advent of the smartphone revolution about ten years ago, the world has changed at a drastic pace, and the restaurant industry is no exception. Many restaurant chains large and small have launched their own apps to make dining more convenient and offer rewards for their loyal customers. Therefore, we are starting a new series of reviews of restaurant apps. Here’s our McDonald’s app review.

Convenience and Reliability
First off, upon downloading the McDonald’s app you should register with your name and email address. You can use an existing Google or Facebook account to expedite this process. You’ll also pick a location when you first open the app. If you let the app view your mobile device location, this should only take a couple of seconds. To order, you can get started with the “Order” button at the bottom or the “Deals” button next to it. Pick your item(s) and add them to your order. Customization options for your food are intuitive. The calorie counts are prominently displayed on menu items when ordering, if you’re into that sort of thing. Hit the McDonald’s cart button at the top right to finish up when you’re ready. The only form of payment you can use in the app is a credit card. Overall, we liked the ordering process.

Rewards and Savings
McDonald’s offers lots of valuable coupons right in the app. You can easily find them by going to the Deals button on the bottom of the screen. On my app, I got coupons for iced coffee, Minute Maid slushies, and a whopping 40 piece chicken nuggets for $8.99.
McDonald’s also puts other promotions onto the Home screen to get you more savings. For example, from the home screen you can play a game to try and get a $1 off token drop into your bag, kind of like Plinko from The Price is Right. Every little bit helps!

McDonald’s has put together a great app. The app was first introduced in 2015, with mobile order, pay and coupons added in 2018. We like the interface and had no problems with the ordering process from start to finish. We also like that the coupons are easy to spot in the Deals section, and you won’t get some of these deals elsewhere. We recommend you keep the app downloaded so you have it handy for that next Big Mac Attack!
